“Mollusk on a mission”

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On – Dean Fleischer Camp – 2021

I was so looking forward to this film after watching the short film (*) a couple of years previous, and it did not disappoint!

Stop-Motion is a real love of mine, the intricate style of creating life through thousands of shots conveying emotion and life has the same impact as watching an actor. For instance the typical SM would need 1440 frames for a single minute of stop motion animation.

The story like previously stated is an adaptation of the interview of a Mollusk named Marcel. David, a documentarian, in between jobs (POV voiced by the director himself) goes to stay for a short while at an air bnb, where he discovers Marcel (Voiced by the wonderful Jenny Slate). After a short while he tries to reunite the Mollusk and his Grandma with their lost relatives.

This truly is such a wholesome film with laughter, tears of joy and that feeling of a time long ago of being a child going to cinema.

I highly recommend this film to everyone of all ages who just want to enjoy a 90 minute wholesome film.
